Newcastle are 13th in the Premier League table and seriously out of form, with four defeats from their past five games in all competitions.
And a lot of their struggles have come at St James' Park, where they have only won one of their five league matches this season and are yet to keep a clean sheet.
Newcastle's defenders were caught napping forEverton'sopener, allowing a free George to drive into the box before he unleashed a shot which should have been handled better by keeper Hornicek.
Nobody was close to Barry, who tapped in on the rebound.
Going forward the home side were poor for the first hour before a late flurry of chances as they pushed for an equaliser.
They will be without Ramsey for their next match, away toFulhamon Saturday (15:00 GMT), after the midfielder was dismissed for a poor challenge on the halfway line - seconds after being booked for a late tackle on Hayden Hackney.
Ramsey and his team-mates were booed off by pockets of their supporters at both half-time and full-time, with their side four points above the bottom three.
