Former Scotland star Chris Paterson believes Gregor Townsend's side are capable of stunning the All Blacks on Saturday.
Scotland have never beaten New Zealand in 19 attempts spanning 121 years, but Paterson is hopeful of a victory that would mark a "defining" moment in the Scottish game.
The sides meet at Murrayfield in a mouthwatering Nations Championship opener.
Paterson, Scotland's record points scorer and most capped player, told BBC Radio Scotland: "It's a big ask. Do they have enough to do it? I believe Scotland can win but it will come down to big moments.
"You have two teams that will want to play a similar style of rugby and are very good at it. My concern is the battle-hardened nature of New Zealand.
"We've never done it before so it would be a defining moment in terms of Scottish rugby."
Paterson expects a thrilling game at Murrayfield with points aplenty.
"I know one thing, whatever the result will be it's going to be a shootout and there's going to be points scored at Murrayfield tomorrow," he added.
