New Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Challinor has said he has inherited an "amazing squad".

The 51-year-old was appointed Henrik Pedersen's successor on Sundayon a three-year-and-a-half-year deal.

Wednesday are ninth in League One after a run of four games without a win.

Asked by BBC Radio Sheffieldif his aim for the season was to get promotion, Challinor said: "The aim is to win. The aim is to move forward."

The former Stockport County boss added: "It's an amazing squad. We're feeling a little bit of pain at the moment with injuries.

"This is a new group, there was 17 or 18 new players in the summer.

"You go through processes of how that works and comes together, and you throw in the adversity of not being able to name the same squad consecutively because of injuries and suspensions.

"We know we need our best players back and that will hopefully not be too far away."

The Owls face League Two Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup first round on Sunday and host Plymouth Argyle in Challinor's first league game in charge on Saturday, 14 November.
