Apple has officially announced the opening of Apple Music Hall, a brand-new live music venue located inside London’s historic Battersea Power Station.
Situated along the River Thames, thestate-of-the-artspace is designed to host bespoke, intimate performances that offer both artists and fans an exceptional liveconcert experience.
“Apple’s deep love for music dates all the way back to the very beginning, from the launch of the iPod to the long-running iTunes Music Festival to the debut of Apple Music,”saidOliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and International Content.
Design honors the historic power station
The interior design references the original building through brickwork, fluted arches, and bronze balconies. A large glass wall overlooks the concourse and the river outside.
A flexible stage
The auditorium holds up to 600 people to keep audiences near the stage. The 38-foot-wide stage can be configured for either standard front-facing shows or in-the-round performances.
Surround speakers deliver an immersive experience
Audio in the venue runs through a 48-speaker spatial sound system placed around the audience. This setup allows artists to present performances in an immersive audio format.
Onsite studios record and mix live performances daily
The facility includes two recording and mix studios behind the stage. Technicians can record multitrack audio from every show and mix it in Spatial Audio live or in post-production.
Dedicated broadcast control rooms
The building is wired for 16 or more cameras connected to a dedicated broadcast control room. The system accepts video from traditional broadcast cameras and iPhones running at the same time.
Live concerts will stream to global audiences
Apple plans to livestream concerts from the venue globally. As a result, viewers outside London can watch the performances as they happen.
Apple Music Radio moves to the Battersea studios
Apple also opened new radio studios at the Battersea site for its London-based staff. Apple Music Radio will broadcast its 24/7 free programming directly from the new location.
