Australia’s future AUKUS nuclear submarines will use British-built Rolls-Royce reactors, linking Australia’s new submarine fleet to Britain’s nuclear industrial base and a major trilateral defense partnership.

Australia’s future SSN-AUKUS nuclear-powered attack submarines will use reactors built by Britain’s Rolls-Royce. Under the AUKUS program, Australia is investing £2.4 billion to expand the UK’s reactor infrastructure, while Australian submarines will be constructed at Osborne in South Australia. The British-designed submarines are being developed by Australia, the UK and US, creating a deeply integrated industrial partnership at the heart of Australia’s future nuclear submarine fleet.
