Can Meta’s VR Glasses Win Where Apple’s Vision Pro Failed?

Meta has unveiled Meta VR Glasses at Connect 2026, a $1,299 headset that weighs about 100 grams because its Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, battery and storage sit in a pocket puck linked by an optical tether.

Meta just unveiled VR glasses that weigh about 100 grams, roughly a deck of cards, at about a third of the price of Apple’s Vision Pro.

They’re called Meta VR Glasses. They cost 1,299 dollars and pack a 5K micro-OLED display.

The heavy parts ride in your pocket. A puck holds the Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, battery and storage, linked by an optical cable.

You control them with your eyes, hands and voice, no controllers needed, and they play video for up to three hours.

But preliminary reports from people who tried it put the view at 70 degrees wide, far narrower than the Quest 3’s 110.

Can Meta’s VR Glasses Win Where Apple’s Vision Pro Failed?

After a June price hike, the Vision Pro costs 3,699 dollars and puts 750 to 800 grams on your face.

Reports say Apple sold only about 600,000 units, moved much of the team elsewhere, and won’t have a new model for two years or more.

Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth says Apple “missed the mark” because “you just couldn’t wear that thing for very long.”

But Apple is not alone. Meta’s Reality Labs unit lost 4.6 billion dollars last quarter alone, and a US lawsuit claims contractors viewed private footage from its Ray-Ban glasses.

Meta’s VR Glasses go on sale in spring 2027. Lighter and far cheaper, yes. Now Meta has to prove people want to wear them.
