As I get ready to head out to the big Boston Ars Party, I’ve got a few tidbits that I want to throw your way.

While we’ve alreadymentioned this in an earlier news post, it bears repeating that AMD is indeed supporting Palladium with Hammer/Opteron.Slashdot is running a storythat links tothis article, "confirming" AMD’s plans with a tad bit of conjecture. The real debate is whether or not AMD is going to allow users toturn offthis technology via the BIOS, as we suggest earlier. Signs point toyes, but until we see the actual technology in place, I wouldn’t go bettin’ the farm or anything. Also, SOI verification and design changes have been verified as theroot of the Hammer delays.

In Unreal Tournament news, UT2003 hasgone gold! That was, uh, fast. Perhaps a little too fast, too. Even withthe latest patch, one of our test systems in the lab crashes from time to time, and I know others are having additional problems. At first I thought it might be our Radeon 9700, since some users arereporting problemswith certain chipsets and AGP 8x support. Others are claiming that there arepower-supply issueswith the card, but again we can’t verify them with our setup, even with a machine with a rather generic 250W supply. With regards to UT2k3, even with a GeForce Ti4600 installed, we still hit snags that would cause the game to lock up. The game should be on shelves by the end of the month, and will have Linux support out of the box (which will have no less than 3 CDs of funk therein).
