From a soldier’s shoulder to vehicle turrets, helicopters and warships, France’s Mistral missile can launch from almost anywhere. Here’s how MBDA built an entire air-defence family.

France’s Mistral is more than a missile — it’s an entire family of short-range air-defence systems. Developed by MBDA, Mistral can be deployed as a man-portable weapon, mounted on vehicle turrets, launched from naval systems, and even carried by helicopters for air-to-air engagements. Using an infrared seeker, Mistral provides a flexible way to defend troops, vehicles, ships and aircraft against a wide range of aerial threats.
