A 118-metre, 40-tonne wind turbine blade has been hauled along winding mountain roads in Chenzhou, in central China’s Hunan province, on its way to be assembled into a turbine.

This single wind turbine blade is 118 metres long, weighs 40 tonnes, and it’s climbing a mountain road in China’s Hunan province.

So how do you get something longer than a football pitch around hairpin bends? You point it at the sky.

Lifters like this can tilt a blade up to about 60 degrees and spin it a full 360.

Tilted up, it overhangs far less, so the truck can swing through tight turns and the blade clears slopes, trees and houses.

In 2023, a 75-metre blade made a similar climb in Sichuan. This one is more than twice as heavy.
