For most of us PowerVR was nothing more than something that flashed by our Quake config screens while we were opting instead for OpenGL, but those are old memories, and PowerVR hasn’t been in the news too much recently (of course, there areextremists;). The technology, or at least its grandchild, may be on the up-and-up.Imagination Technologieshaslicensedits PowerVR MBX graphics / video technologies to Intel for inclusion in Intel Integrated Circuits (ICs). The symbiotic deal sees Imagination continuing to develop their technology with Intel funding, while Intel employs such technology in its products for a nice royalty fee. It’s not likely that Intel is planning on implementing this technology in the PC consumer space, however. PowerVR MBX is geared towards mobile technologies (including PDAs), set top boxes and car info and entertainment systems. This PR from Marchgives you a good idea what we’re talking about.
