The U.S. Navy has awarded Boeing $562 million to begin low-rate production of the MQ-25A Stingray, its carrier-based unmanned tanker designed to refuel naval fighters.

The U.S. Navy has awarded Boeing a $562 million contract for the first low-rate production MQ-25A Stingray aircraft. Three Lot 1 Stingrays will be built, with long-lead components also funded for three Lot 2 aircraft. Designed to operate from aircraft carriers, the unmanned Stingray will provide aerial refueling for the carrier air wing, allowing more F/A-18E/F Super Hornets to focus on strike missions while extending the Navy’s reach.
