This 777 Won’t Carry Passengers — It’ll Launch Hypersonic Aircraft

Stratolaunch is converting a Boeing 777-200ER into a hypersonic launch platform for Talon-A, expanding its testing fleet and increasing flight capacity by 35 percent.

Stratolaunch is adding a Boeing 777-200ER to its hypersonic testing fleet, giving the company another aircraft capable of carrying and launching Talon-A test vehicles. The modified 777 is expected to enter service in 2027 and could increase Stratolaunch’s overall flight capacity by 35 percent. With more carrier aircraft available, the company aims to support more frequent hypersonic tests and provide greater flexibility for U.S. defense and commercial programs.
