Toyota has officially unveiled the GR KART, an entry-level racing kart engineered to make motorsports accessible and engaging for children and families.

The vehicle, priced around $2,500, is designed to lower the traditional barriers totrack drivingand introduce a wider public to hands-onvehicle control. It has been rolled out nationwide across Japan at select kart tracks and dedicated GR Garage locations.

“By offering a price point and system for the GR KART that makes competing easier, GR aims to make direct involvement in motorsports possible for more people,”saidToyota in a press release.

Supports wider participation in amateur motorsports

The project aligns with a goal set by Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda to make motorsports as accessible as mainstream sports like football or baseball. Toyota developed the kart to lower the typical financial, logistical, and maintenance barriers associated with competitive driving.

Dedicated workshop manufactures the vehicle

Manufacturing takes place at the Gamagori GR KART Workshop in Aichi Prefecture. Operating under the Toyota Production System, the small-scale facility focuses on continuous process improvements to reduce manufacturing costs and maintain standard vehicle build quality.

Compact frame fits inside standard family minivans

The vehicle is sized to fit inside everyday Japanese minivans, such as the Toyota Noah or Voxy, without needing disassembly. This eliminates the need for specialized trailers or transport vehicles when travelling to and from the track.

Leak-resistant design allows upright home storage

To simplify home storage, the kart can be stored vertically without draining its fluids. The system uses a float-chamber-free diaphragm carburetor, an upright-compatible engine oil catch tank, and a fuel filler cap angled to prevent leaks.

Components accommodate both children and adult drivers

The cockpit features one-touch adjustable sliding pedals and a tiltable steering wheel. These adjustments accommodate drivers ranging from 135 to 185 centimetres in height, allowing children and adults to use the same vehicle.

Self-charging hardware and durable parts

The four-stroke engine uses an internal self-charging battery, removing the need for external battery chargers. It also includes a manual primer pump to draw fuel prior to ignition, stainless steel rear axle shafts, and internal metal fuel lines designed to resist corrosion.

Integrated protective features minimize track-related risks

Safety features include front and rear bumper designs that prevent karts from climbing over each other during collisions. The kart also includes rear-hub stopper pins, a throttle cable mount designed to prevent the pedal from sticking open, and a seat shaped to keep hands away from the hot exhaust muffler.
