China is studying a 60-tonne nuclear-powered tank concept with a 450-kilometer railgun, but the futuristic vehicle remains in research and simulation with major engineering challenges ahead.

Chinese researchers are studying a futuristic 60-tonne nuclear-powered tank concept armed with a 50-megajoule electromagnetic railgun. The proposed 10-megawatt-class reactor could theoretically accelerate projectiles to around 3.5 kilometers per second, with a potential range of up to 450 kilometers. However, the concept remains at the research and simulation stage, with major challenges including reactor cooling, radiation shielding, energy storage and battlefield survivability.
