Plans have been lodged to turn a former pub in Derby into flats.

Kandore Properties has submitted a planning application to Derby City Council to convert the Vulcan Arms in St Thomas Road into seven flats.

According to planning documents the pub closed its doors earlier this year and was in "fair condition" but would need "substantial investment" to resume operation.

Plans state the proposed conversion would utilise an "underused" site in a "sustainable location".

Documents submitted with the application said that marketing the building as a pub had produced "no interest" from tenants or buyers.

They added: "Reopening the property as a community drinkers pub with only a modest investment would be unlikely to produce a business that would be sufficiently profitable and therefore viable."

Derby City Council's website states the proposals are undergoing public consultation and the authority aims to make a decision on the plans by 24 December.
