British luxury carmaker Bentley Motors has launched its first fully electric vehicle, an SUV named the Torcal.
The new model forms the brand’s fourth vehicle line, joining its current combustion-engine andhybrid offerings. Bentley Chairman and Chief Executive Frank-Steffen Walliser stated that the vehicle sets new benchmarks for the company and provides a template forfuture production models.
“For 107 years, Bentleys have been the most incredibly complete cars – effortless performance, outstanding comfort, exquisite British handcraftsmanship using the best natural materials, and a soundtrack with soul,”saidWalliser. “Our new Torcal sets extraordinary benchmarks in every area that matters.”
Offers generous storage space
The Torcal measures 196.8 inches (five meters) in length, making it the shortest four-door car in Bentley's current lineup. The exterior features a long wheelbase, short body overhangs, and an illuminated diamond front grille. Cargo capacity includes a 16.2 cubic-foot (460-liter) rear trunk along with a 3.2 cubic-foot (90-liter) front storage compartment.
Dual electric motors deliver rapid acceleration
The core Torcal is powered by two permanent-magnet electric motors producing 810 horsepower (821 PS) and 881 lb-ft (1,194 Nm) of torque. It accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 mph. The vehicle uses an 800-volt electrical system with a 113-kilowatt-hour net battery pack covered by a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
Fast-charging provides hundreds of miles rapidly
Bentley cites an estimated driving range of up to 375 miles (600 km) on the European WLTP testing cycle. Connected to a 400-kilowatt DC fast charger, the battery charges from 10% to 80% in about 16 to 20 minutes. The system can also add approximately 100 miles of range in seven minutes.
Suspension technology ensures exceptional comfort
The chassis uses an active suspension setup with two-valve adaptive dampers that remove the need for conventional anti-roll bars. Standard all-wheel steering allows the rear wheels to turn up to five degrees, giving the SUV a 36.4-foot (11.1-meter) turning circle. Braking is handled by standard iron discs, with carbon-silicon carbide ceramic units available as an option.
Integrates cutting-edge driver technology
The cabin is fitted with curved OLED displays and offers 16-way adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Onboard electronics include facial recognition software to load personal driver profiles, a smartphone-based digital key, an augmented reality head-up display, and a panoramic sunroof with switchable opacity. Driver-assistance equipment relies on a network of 25 exterior cameras, radars, and sensors.
Acoustic interior sounds enhance the sustainable cabin
Instead of artificial synthesizer tones, the Torcal plays an interior soundscape recorded using acoustic instruments such as drums and bass guitar, tuned to vehicle speed and throttle input. Cabin upholstery options include certified 100% Merino wool fabric alongside leather and recycled paper-wood veneers. Drivers can select between four factory cabin modes—Bentley, Comfort, Sport, and Refresh—which alter climate settings, internal lighting, and audio profiles.
Torcal S delivers elevated track performance
Alongside the standard SUV, Bentley introduced a performance variant called the Torcal S. With Launch Control engaged, output increases to 876 horsepower and 996 lb-ft (1,350 Nm) of torque, lowering the zero-to-60 mph sprint to 2.8 seconds and raising top speed to 162 mph. The S model adds 22-inch wheels, black exterior trim, a rear diffuser, sports pedals, and standard piano-black interior veneers.
