German luxury carmaker Porsche has upgraded its first fully electric performance SUV with 11-kilowatt (kW) wireless charging, automatic doors, and seats that can massage passengers in sync with the music.
The new features will debut with the upcoming model year. They will be available for both the Cayenne Electric SUV and Cayenne Coupé Electric. According to the company, customers will be able to choose from 105 paint shades, alongside additional interior options.
The updated models will further includePorsche Wireless Charging, an inductive home charging system. Integrated into the My Porsche app, it will allow users to start charging simply by parking above a ground pad. It will transfer electricity at up to 11 kW with an efficiency of around 90 percent.
Inside,the Cayenne Electricwill also incorporate a massage system that combines air cushions with sound actuators built into the seats. These will create vibrations that canaccompany musicplaying inside the vehicle.
Automatic doors
The opening and closing of the Cayenne Electric's four doors will be handled by servo motors. Passengers will only need to briefly pull a door handle before the system takes over the rest of the movement. The doors will also be operated with buttons inside the SUV, the Porsche Communication Management system, or remotely through Porsche's Digital Key. Additionally, the driver's door will be linked to the vehicle's controls. It will close automatically when the driver fastens their seat belt or presses the brake pedal. The area around the doors will be monitored by sensors.
Charging without plugging in
Drivers will be able to charge the Cayenne Electric without plugging in a cable. They will just need to park the SUV over a ground pad installed in a parking space. The charging will start automatically once the vehicle is correctly positioned. The setup will include the vehicle hardware, a vehicle pad, and a weatherproof ground pad that can also be installed outdoors.
Wireless power
According to Porsche, the wireless charging system will transfer electricity to the Cayenne Electric at up to 11 kW. It will operate at an efficiency of around 90 percent and use motion sensors and foreign-object detection to monitor the charging area. Charging will stop automatically if a person or animal approaches the vehicle or ground pad. It will also stop if a metallic object is detected on the pad and begins to heat up.
Seats that vibrate to music
What's more, the company will introduce a massage function to the Cayenne Electric. It will feature 4D audio for the driver and front passenger. Each front seat will contain 16 air cushions alongside six sound actuators integrated into the backrest and seat cushion. The sound actuators will create vibrations that add a physical element to music playing inside the SUV. Users will be able to choose between five massage programs and select different vibration intensities. The 4D audio system will also operate independently of the massage function. Occupants will be able to adjust both the distribution and strength of the vibrations to suit their preferences.
Three new wellness modes
The massage and audio technology will also be integrated into the Cayenne Electric's Mood Modes. There will be three additional Wellness Mood Modes that have pneumatic massage, vibrations, and specially selected sound experiences. The drivers and passengers will be able to adjust their desired massage program and its intensity using the vehicle's central display.
A choice of colors
Moreover, the carmaker will add the electric SUV to its Paint to Sample program through Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Buyers will be able to choose from 13 standard colors spread across the Contrasts, Shades, Dreams, and Legends categories. The Paint to Sample will add another 92 shades, which brings the total number of available paint colors to 105.
Customizing the cabin
Porsche already offers an Interior Style Package developed by its Style Porsche design studio and Exclusive Manufaktur. The package combines black with exclusive green tones to create a two-tone interior. For the new model year, Porsche will add an Extended Package Interior Style with additional leather trim and decorative stitching in Delgada Green. "Other equipment options such as the leather/Race-Tex seat console in the front and rear, and interior sill trim panels upholstered in Race-Tex - each featuring colored decorative stitching - take the customization options for all Cayenne Electric models to a completely new level," the company concluded.
