The F-35’s F135 engine is getting a major upgrade designed to provide more power and cooling capacity for future sensors, computing systems and Block 4 capabilities.

The F-35 is getting a major propulsion upgrade as Pratt & Whitney completes a key design review for its F135 Engine Core Upgrade. Designed to provide additional electrical power and thermal capacity, the upgrade aims to support the fighter’s increasingly demanding sensors, computing and weapons. The program could help the F-35 accommodate future Block 4 capabilities while retaining commonality with the existing F135 engine architecture.
